Today in Human Geo, we once again worked a little more on our Power Point projects. Today I had a shadow with me today in class. When we were working on our project we asked Mr Schick if he could check if was good so far. He did - and made a few notes on our a few of slides. Right away- Gabby and I went to work and researched the information that Mr. Schick was looking for. Gabby and I got two slides done today. We do not have class tomorrow and we do not have school on Friday. I will probably contact Gabby and ask to log onto Google Drive so we can finish it over the weekend. I am not sure if Mr. Schick is giving us Monday to work on it, but either way, my partner and I will be prepared first mod Monday.

Today in class we worked a little more on our Power Point projects. My partner and I are almost finished- we need one more slide. Not only that, but we also gained a new student. My group added some information about impeachment to our P.P. Impeachment is one of the ways to get rid of (or overthrow) a leader. We talked about what steps go into the process. We did this all of class time. I don't know of we are presenting our project tomorrow- but either way, my partner and I will be prepared. Because my group is using Google Drive, we got a lot of our Power Point done- this is one of the main reasons we feel prepared for the presentation. We researched a bunch of information about China's government and typed separate paragraphs at the same time! Until tomorrow!

Monday, October 27, 2014

Today in class, Mr. Schick announced that we would be doing a partner project. Each group would be assigned a country- and we would need to find out what government they have. My friend Gabby and I were assigned China. We are using Google Drive- so both of us can work on the presentation at the same time. Near the end of class we were told to share each  P.P with Mr. Schick. Gabby and I made some very good progress. Mr. Schick told the class that we could work on the presentations in class tomorrow. Because my group had made good progress- I am prepared. I also have a lot of free time tomorrow, so me and my partner can work on it then. Until tomorrow... (Tuesday).

Today in class we took a pop *pop noise, quiz. I was pretty prepared because Mr. Schick commented on one of my blogs. I got stuck on 3 questions- and went with my gut feeling. The quiz is worth 30 points and there were 15 questions. This means that each question was worth 2 points. After I was done the quiz I estimated what I might get. My estimate was not very accurate. I felt pretty good about the quiz while I was taking- but when I saw my grade, not so much. Even though I didn't do to well on the quiz, My grade is still where I want it to be. We have Human Geo first mod on Monday, until then.

Today in class we talked a little more about the background of leaders. At one point Mr. Schick

wanted us to look up which leader suffered a tragic death in the family. I started to search the web and finally found the answer! The prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu's brother was killed in action when saving several Israeli from a hostage in Uganda. I got to ring the bell! I also learned that the emperor of China never graduated college. I had a good time in class today- no class tomorrow but class on Friday. I will be prepared for Friday's class. Until then...

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Today in class we went over the blog that we had to do last night for homework. The homework was to look up some information about the leaders we discussed in our previous class. According to Mr. Schick- I was on a role today! I read some fun facts out  loud to the class- the fun facts are on my previous blog. -> I found some out some really interesting things today. Like, that the president of Mexico- Enrique Nieto- has been married 3 times! Overall I had a good time in class today. I am still a little upset about my grade- but I will improve in the future. Tomorrow we will be having class and we will probably continue going over the new unit. Until tomorrow!

Monday, October 20, 2014

Today in class we went over the HW assignment that was to be done over the past weekend. I found out this morning- that I had done the HW wrong. I was very upset with myself for not paying attention in class when the HW assignment was given. Because Mr. Schick is the greatest teacher ever, he told everyone that had done it wrong- to do it over for credit.

*-*-*This blogs HW assignment is to find out a little more about the countries leaders and how they became leaders.

Mexico

Enrique Peña Nieto
Nieto won with 37.6% of the vote, despite talk of his infidelities during his first marriage, his verbal gaffes along the campaign trail and his critics who derided him as a pretty face with more hairdo than intellect
China

Born in Beijing in 1953, Xi Jinping is the son of revolutionary veteran Xi Zhongxun, one of the Communist Party's founding fathers. Because of this he was a well known figure. Mr Xi was named party chief of Shanghai in 2007 when its former chief, Chen Liangyu, was sacked over corruption charges. Shortly after, he was promoted to the party's Standing Committee and became vice-president in 2008. With several strong speeches he was elected president- and is still leading China today.

India

Narendra Modi is the 15th and current Prime Minister of India, in office since May 2014.   He previously served as the Chief Minister of Gurajate state from 2001 to 2014.  He had many experiences in his early years to prepare for his future of being a prime minister. Like, Modi became a member of the RSS after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. After Modi had received some RSS training (RSS training industry) in Nagpur, he became head of the student wing in which he was educated.- this was his first big leadership position.

Russia

Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin was born in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia, on October 7, 1952. After graduating from Leningrad State University in 1975, he began his career in the KGB as an intelligence officer. Stationed mainly in East Germany, he held that position until 1989. The KBG,  was the main security agency for the Soviet Union from 1954 until its collapse in 1991. In December 1999, Boris Yeltsin resigned as president of Russia and appointed Putin acting president until official elections were held. This is when his career of a leader .

Germany

Joachim Gauck is the President of Germany, serving since March 2012. He was also a former Lutheran pastor.During the Peaceful Revolution of 1989, he became a member of the New Forum, a democratic opposition movement, and was elected as its spokesman.-This began his leadership streak. On 3 June 2010, Joachim Gauck was nominated for President of Germany in the 2010 election.

United Kingdom

David William Donald Cameron is the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party. He represents Witney as its Member of Parliament. After graduation, Cameron worked for the Conservative Research Department between September 1988 and 1993. This is when he became interested in politics. A couple years later he had the chance to assist the present Prime Minister. There the minister asked him questions about  his interest in politics. In June 2003, Cameron was appointed a shadow minister. (one step closer to prime). On 11 May 2010, following the resignation of Gordon Brown as Prime Minister and on his recommendation,Elizabeth the second invited Cameron to form a government. At age 43, Cameron became the youngest British Prime Minister since  Liverpool who was appointed in 1812.

France
He served in French Army in 1977.

Brazil

Irael

Benjamin Netanyahu was born on October 21, 1949, in Tel Aviv, Israel and grew up in Jerusalem. He spent most of his teen years living in the Philadelphia area, where his father, noted Jewish historian Benzion Netanyahu, worked as a professor
I did not do my Human Geo Assignment correctly. This is my fault and I take full blame. I should've paid closer attention in class when he announced the assignment. I am prepared to take the grade for doing the HW incorrectly.

Today in class, three people had to take a test. This is why I haven't seen the grade on Power School yet. Because three people had to take a test, the rest of the class got to work on homework. I was so thankful because I was going to the freshman dinner- and was afraid that I wouldn't be able to finish all of my homework. I worked on all my homework and finished it. Thank you Mr. Schick! I am hoping that we will be able to get our test grades back soon, because I felt very confident about it. We will not have class for a while because- the whole school is taking a test, and we don't have class on Thursday. So I'm hoping that Mr. Schick will post the grades up on Power School. Because we got to do out HW today- I am now less stressed and am looking forward to the freshman dinner! Until Friday.

Friday, October 10, 2014

Today in class- we took the test. I feel very confident about my grade. I really wanted to ace this test because my grade is a 89. (SO CLOSE TO AN A!) This test can bring my grade up. The first portion of the test was working with the CIA World Fact Book. We had 10 minutes to complete this part. Luckily, I finished all the questions just in time. The rest of the quiz was fairly easy. The only part that confused me a little but- was when we had to identify which pyramid goes with what country. I did my best on each one and went with my gut. At the end of the test there were 2 bonus questions- I had no idea what the answers were! :) But Mr. Schick insisted that we answer the question. So I made my best guess. After the test -I started my blog. Now I'm finished!
Until Monday!

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Today in Mr. Schick's class we reviewed for the test we will be having on friday. The only reason we are not having it tomorrow, is because we don't have class tomorrow! We mostly reviewed  Migration vocabulary words.

  • Life expectancy
  • Crude birth rate
  • Crude death rate
  • Developing nations
  • Rate of natural increase
  • Net migration rate
  • Immigration
  • Emigration
  • Push forces
  • Pull forces
  • Total fertility rate

Here are some facts we reviewed...

~ To find out the rate of natural increase you subtract birth and death rate.
 BIRTH-DEATH= RATE OF NATURAL INCREASE

~ Infrastructure- what a country needs to connect with other countries.

Migration Rate

Immigration- "coming"
Emigration- "leaving"

*different forces*

- push forces~ make people want to leave()war-health-religion
- pull forces~make people want to come()job opportunities-religion-freedom

Today in class, we didn't learn anything! Actually, we learned about the Pilot Program Mr. Schick is participating in. The people at Spotify are trying to find a way to make the music app Spotify, more educational. Since Mr. Schick is participating, he got 3 months of Spotify Premium... FOR FREE!!! So since WE- the class- are joining in, we also get 3 months of Spotify Premium... FOR FREE!!! The class is responsible for finding different songs on Spotify to help with the Progam. Mr. Schick gave us codes so we could get the free Premium. This is basically what we did in class today- it was fun! Our HW for the next couple of days will be this..

Monday, October 6, 2014

Today in Mr. Schick's class we went onto the CIA Word Fact Book and looked up some facts that made our country the best in the world. We did this because last week, we had a debate on this topic.
We learned some good and bad things about our country. One funny thing that I learned in the United States is number 18 in obesity. Obesity- as Mr. Schick put it is another word for "chubbiness." After today, I don't know whether or not America is the greatest country in the world. I still stick with what I said last week. The United States is a great country compared to others; but standing alone- not so much. I had a good time in class today- I definitely have gotten use to using the CIA World Fact Book. I can see that we will be using it in future classes and am looking forward to it.

Saturday, October 4, 2014

Today in Mr. Schick's class we watched a short portion of a tv show, which included different statistics that we have been learning about for the past week or so. After we watched the video we had a class debate.

IS AMERICA THE GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD?

In my opinion, we aren't the greatest. America had a lot of issues that we need to fix; overall we aren't perfect. But, compared to some other countries we look really good. We have a clean environment-jobs opportunities- we future opportunities! People from all over the world come to America to make futures.

These are some the points I said in class.

This is really all we did in class but I really enjoyed it! I hope we do these class discussions more often.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

Today in Mr. Schick's class we finished the video talking about Population Pyramids. We also discussed the video in more detail. But, we  got a little off topics at times...

Here are some of the topics we discussed in class- from the video and from the off topic discussions:

  • The birth rate in America is very low.
  • The total fertility rate is 2.1 in the US.
This causes the population to stay the same- but because of immigration our population is slowly growing in number.
  • Our death rate is very low- because of medicine and our healthy life style.
  • Population Pyramids are good for tracing back in history ex.) World War
Random Fact
India will soon pass China in population rate very soon.

No class tomorrow- but I will see you Friday!
