Today in Mr. Schick's class we reviewed the video we watched the day/night before. We talked about Populations Pyramids. Population Pyramids are divided by age and gender. In other words, the pyramid is s bar graph- charting the countries population.
We also talked about the reason for some of the countries to have a bigger number of people is because of the "Baby Boom."
Another topic we discussed is the 3 stages that countries have gone through and are going through now.
1.) pre- industrialization
2.) industrialization
3.) post- industrialization
We didn't finish the video- but we will finish tomorrow and continue our review!
See you next class Mr. Schick!

Today in Human Geo we had another sub! She told us to look at Mr. Schicks blog and see what he had planned. Linked on his most recent post was a video and some questions
According to the Population Reference Bureau's "2013 World Population Data Sheet", 271 are born every minute, and 106 die every minute. That's a global net population increase of 165 per minute. This lesson was published on May 5th. What's the estimated global population increase exactly one week later (May 12th)? A: over 10 million B: 20,739 C: 1155 D: 1,663,200
As a country slows in population growth, its pyramid shape will A: become wider at the base and narrower at the top B: be inverted C: become more rectangular D: bulge in the middle
What does a Population Pyramid NOT give you information about? A: birth rates B: actual number of people C: life expectancy D: death rates
Which continent would have the most fast-growth pyramids? A: Africa B: Asia C: North America D: South America
Gonna be completely honest here, I was a little confused. The video was a little complicated to me. But, I know Mr. Schick will go over it in class.

In Friday's class with Mr. Schick, we went over some interesting facts that we learned about in the CIA World Fact Book. We learned that Syria has the lowest migration rate/population because every one is leaving and going to Lebanon. Lebanon had one of the highest numbers of population because of this. Syria is currently having some government issues. We also learned that you can basically learn anything about our world now, on this site! After school on Friday, I decided to read through it a little bit, and I was very interested. I have made the conclusion that the United States is in good shape- compared to some other countries. Some of the facts I learned were a little scary. I enjoyed learning about the CIA World Fact Book. I'm hoping that we use it in future classes.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we went over the test we had taken. He handed them out in an interesting way. He called out the names of the test, and if that person had an A, than he would ring his bell. I was happy with my grade, but I have to admit, I thought I had done better. We went over every single question on the test so everyone could write down the right answers. Mr. Schick said that his tests will be very helpful for his exams. Although I got a good grade, I would've liked to do better. I messed up on the essay questions. I was a little confused during the test- but had thought I had done pretty well. On some of the essay questions I did fine; but on the others, not so much. Overall I'm glad we went over the test and am looking forward for the next class.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we reviewed everything that he had taught on Friday- since half of the class was away on a retreat. We talked about Population and Settlement. Here are some notes that we took in class.
- There are over 7 billion people on the planet right now.
- It's increasing 73 million per year.
- 90% of the population growth takes place in developing countries.
Life Expectancy
- The average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year.
Measuring Population
- crude birth rate > number of births per 1,000 of the population.
- crude death rate > number of deaths per 1,000 of the population.
Rate of Natural Increase
- This is produced by subtracting one death rate from one birth rate.
- This gives us the annual natural growth rate- in percentage form- for a country or region.
~ population is also produced by migration. ~
HW
1.) Blog Edit
On Mr. Schick's PowerPoint he said 3.62 was the number of migrants per 1,000 population in the US. Now the number is 2.45.
I found the CIA Fact Book very interesting.
See you Wednesday!

Today in class we took the test..... It was open blog! I was prepared to take the test without it, but when Mr. Schick said that it was open blog, I felt relieved. I feel that I did very well on the test. I also thought that it was a fair test. Something funny that happened was when I turned my paper in. Previously in our class- Mr. Schick told us that he never uses true or false. He thinks that true or false questions do nothing for your knowledge that your tested on. But, I realized that there was one true or false question. I told Mr. Schick this and he said that he put the question there on purpose and that I was the first to notice.
Overall I had a good time in class- I took most of class time to take my test, but again, overall I had a good time.

Today in Mr. Schick's class- we didn't have Mr. Schick; we had a substitute. In the beginning of class the substitute told us to check Mr. Schick's blog and see what he had down for today's agenda. On his blog, he told the class to study for tomorrow unit test. So, me and a couple other people in my class formed a group.
As well, as directions, Mr. Schick also linked the site Quizlet on his blog. My group and I made flash cards and quizzed each other.
We did this for all of class time- and I know feel more prepared for the test tomorrow.
I am a little nervous for tomorrows test- but after today I feel pretty confident.

Today in Mr. Schick's class, we reviewed for our test that we have on Wednesday. But, we also got a little off topic.
Our test is on these topic...
Our test is on these topic...
- A message to Garcia
- Did you know? 3.0
- Ancient Greece
- G and A
We also talked about the future- we talked about flying cars, the end of wallets, and much more!
We got into deep conversations about how creepy it would be to stare at someone and they would be able to hear what music you were listening to!
Even though, I froze in his class, I had a really good time discussed the topics we discussed!

Better late then never... The time got away from me and the next thing I know its sunday morning.
On Friday the 12th, we discussed the topic of globalization.
Globalization- The connection of different parts of the world.
- this results in the expansion of international, cultural, economic, and political activities.
We talked about some examples next- like Japan.
Japan and American have a fast food industry connection. Japan- has restaurants like McDonalds and KFC, like we have in the US.
Another example is the Silk road. The silk road was built in BCE-or- "before common era."
China's silk was wanted everywhere and then, there was no way to transport it. This is when the silk road was created. Now, other places like Germany could trade with China through the Silk road.
Mr. Schick, I am sorry this blog is late. I truly just forgot. Even though you said that Friday's class would be boring- I found it very interesting. I can't wait for the next class!

Today in Mr. Schick's class we discussed last nights HW, which was to re-watch the video, "Shift Happens," and write about three topics that we learned. We went into greater detail about these topics- but we also talked about other fun facts. Like...
- O.K is the #1 known word in the world.
We learned that a lot of people that don't live in the US, have jobs in the US.
IS THIS A BAD THING, OR A GOOD THING?
~ It could be a bad thing, because if jobs are taken by people out of the country, than there won't be as many job opportunities for Americans.
~ It could be a good thing because we don't have to pay the workers that live out of the country, as much as they would need to pay Americans.
Today Mr. Schick also WARNED us that when class has started we need to get quite and remain quite. If we don't, we write.
And thats about it. I can't wait for the next Human Geo class with Mr. Schick.

Today in class, Mr. Schick showed us a video called "Shift Happens." The video contains fun facts about our world. Our HW assignment is based of of this video.
As you watch the video, pick out three of the facts presented, and consider the following:
As you watch the video, pick out three of the facts presented, and consider the following:
- What was your initial reaction to what you saw?
- How are these changes manifesting themselves in your personal life?
- How much of a role does technology play in your life?
1.) China will soon be the number one English speaking country in the world.
2.) One out of 8 couples last year, in the US met online.
3.) There are 31 billion searches on Google each month.
When I saw this video, I was a little surprised. I didn't know most of the information in the video. Some of the information was positive; and in my opinion, some was negative.
Some of the information was about technology- technology has taken over the world. I use technology EVERY SINGLE DAY. I use it in school, for communication, for entertainment. I-we, use technology all the time. It is a part of everyones daily lives.

Today in Mr. Schick's class we learned a little more about the Letter for Garcia. We learned that the letter is taking place during the Spanish-American War. President Mckinely, who was the president at the time, needed to send a letter to Garcia- but he didn't know where to send the letter. So he sent Rowan, to deliver the letter to Garcia. Rowan did this with no hesitation, and succeeded in delivering the letter to Garcia. Mr. Schick explained to us that the letter is a metaphor- work hard, be trustworthy, be like "Rowan." This is the message of the letter.
After this, we went onto his blog and went over his newest post. His new post- was about our blog progress, democracy, and Elbert Hubbard. We discussed, asked questions- then before I new it, it was the end of class!
I has yet, another good day in Mr. Schick class!

Today in Mr. Schick's class we learned...nothing about the topic of Human Geography. This is
because A LOT of people were having trouble with their blogs. So while Mr. Schick did this, I checked my email and homework. Then Mr. Schick put a big Happy Birthday hat on me and the class sang the Happy Birthday song! It was so cool! After this, he went onto his laptop and showed us how to put links onto our blogs...
- First we went onto our blog sites.
- Then we clicked on design.
- Then we clicked Add a Gadget.
- Then we clicked on links and set up our link portion of our blog.
The first link the class added was- A Message to Garcia.
He also showed us where to find the Schedule for the rest of the semester.
I had a fun time in class today, and I am learning to grow close to Mr. Schick and the students. I look forward to future classes!
